Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games Community Engagement Event: A Journey through Windrush

The B2022 Community Engagement Team with community partner Legacy Centre of Excellence, will host this special event in celebration and commemoration of the Windrush Generation and its descendants. Following on from the Windrush statue unveiling at New Street Station, we are inviting community stakeholders to continue the day’s events in a nostalgic setting exploring the history of Windrush. Special guests from the across the Region will share their stories and experience’s, taking the audience on a journey from past to present, with the theme of History, Culture and Sport that has shaped a generation and Britain as we know it. This is an open event for all communities to participate and connect in a shared history of migration.
Hosted by BBC radio WM presenter Nikki Tapper and guest Speakers Include: Jean- Fracois Manicom-Lead curator @ Liverpool International Slavery Museum, Church leaders, Birmingham Commonwealth Cricket League, Documentary screening from Cyrille Regis Legacy Trust and Guest Athlete talk.
