Winner: Best Animated Short at the Berlin Independent Film Festival 2021
The Migration Blanket is a show of solidarity between girls and women in Birmingham and the Commonwealth nations, calling for a greener planet where nobody is left behind, an end to violence against women and better rights for migrants and refugees.
The film, which features over 200 pieces of unique artwork, was created during the pandemic in extraordinary circumstances. Refugee and migrant women living in camps, orphanages and other temporary accommodation are given a voice, as are migrant and refugee women from South City Birmingham College, who worked closely with Salma Zulfiqar on the project.
Salma Zulfiqar is an award-winning artist and human rights campaigner, born and raised in Birmingham.
