This will take place outside in the car park.

A co-created live performance between Billy Read (Deaf Choreographer), a team of deaf and hearing professional dancers and a deaf community cast. Cog in the Wheel is a new piece of outdoor street dance, critiquing capitalism, and modern smartphone technology. As a Deaf artist, Billy showcases sign language within his work as well as Visual Vernacular (Deaf poetry) and street dance. The theme of capitalism feels relevant as smart phone technology develops and evolves, juxtaposed with the true cost of this technology on the environment and the work force (mostly in the third world, unseen by the vast majority of consumers.) Inspired by the writings of Chinese poet Zu Lizhi who once worked at the Foxconn factory in China, Cog in the Wheel will be a tribute to those hidden workers that make our lives more connected and accessible.

The professional team is comprised of Billy Read (Lead Artist and Choreographer), and local dance artists Warren Murray, Ben Randall, Kevaughn Laing, and Kameel Myrie.

Running Time: 14 minutes Content suitable for family audiences. Any signed or spoken dialogue will be captioned.

We will have QR codes that will provide audio description for the performance, these will be shared at each event for people to scan.
