Second City Tales is a 5-part audio journey though the sounds of some of Birmingham’s most diverse wards - particularly Small Heath. The audio exploration has commissioned 5 writers and 5 musicians with ties to Small Heath and surrounding areas to create a modern digitally available audio archive and celebrating Birmingham’s diversity and championing co-created artworks.
The audio exploration will be available in podcast format and will be broadcast on Birmingham radio (Unity FM AND New Style Radio) and will also feature musical journey’s, shorts stories, poems and word-based anecdotes from Birmingham creatives. The written words are read and acted out by Birmingham residents sharing their experiences and expressing their world through creative arts. Musical works have been commissioned to complement the literal journey through the streets of Birmingham, exploring the sounds, taste, inspiration diversity of Birmingham. Many of the episodes are multi-lingual and as diverse as the music. The stories explore and use language that represents the diversity of Small Heath including English, Arabic, Mirpuri, Patois, and Polish.
Podcasts are multi-lingual and a musical journey through Birmingham’s diverse musical and poetry journey.
There will be a celebration event of the project and artwork on 28 September. Booking via eventrbrite.
A Creative City Project generously funded by Birmingham City Council.
