In preparation for the Games, we need to install two temporary transport malls to the south of Alexander Stadium on Perry Park. The two temporary transport malls are needed for large volumes of spectators and accredited guests to safely board and alight from shuttle buses, coaches, and other vehicles.
In addition, new roads and pavements will be installed to connect two new entrances from Church Road to the newly built Athletes’ Route. Crossing points and pedestrian walkways will also be installed across the park to enable spectators to access Alexander Stadium.
The two temporary transport malls will require the removal of five trees, the playground, approximately 1.5 hectares of green space in Perry Park and closure of the car park.
After the Games, the two temporary transport malls will be removed, and the grassed areas will be reinstated. The emerging Perry Barr masterplan will look at how facilities in Perry Park can be enhanced in the years after the Games, beyond what was there beforehand. When details are available, they will be shared with the local community and key stakeholders. Birmingham City Council are also exploring the potential to plant seventy new trees in Perry Park, and the details of this project will be communicated in the coming months.
The enabling works will begin in on 1st November 2021 and last for around four weeks, whilst the main construction works will start in December 2021 and will be completed by the Spring of 2022, in advance of the Games. Construction works will not take place on Sundays or on Bank Holidays, and will only happen, 8am to 6pm Monday to Friday, and 8am to 1pm on Saturdays. Throughout these works, noise levels will be minimised to ensure that we are being good neighbours.
