Checkmate! is a dedicated safe space for members of the community to feel able to express themselves and engage with each other, alongside growing their chess skills whilst simultaneously challenging the way people perceive chess and help make it a game for everyone across all generations.

The idea came as a way of supporting the community post-lockdown(s). Organisers know it's been a tough year and everyone has had their own personal struggles, and they hope Checkmate! will help make the way back to normality a bit easier.

The great thing about these events is that they can be run across multiple venues in Birmingham, even outdoors in public spaces when the Great British weather allows! All events are free of charge to help make it as accessible as possible for all members of the community. The organisers want to ensure there is equality of opportunity for everyone, regardless of their demographic.
