
Late Night Tales with Cecil Morris

In 1970s Birmingham black cinema was hard to come by, despite the city's growing diversity. DJ and entrepreneur Cecil Morris decided to rectify this, setting up a regular late-night slot at the Elite Cinema on Soho Road. Two or three movies screened each week, Caribbean cinema and blaxploitation rubbing shoulders alongside kung fu movies and counterculture cartoons, with Cecil playing tunes in between.
As part of Wonderland we're delighted to welcome Cecil Morris as our special guest to revisit those hazy days. In conversation with Garry Stewart (Recognize), he'll reflect on a personal story that would make a screenplay in itself, including a twenty-year struggle to keep his radio station PCRL on the airwaves.
