• Educational Resources

  Bring The Power educational resources were downloaded 1,870 times for use within schools in the lead-up to the Games. The resources were designed to compliment the curriculum and/or part of home learning to increase pupil's understanding of the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games. Resources aligned with our chosen programme themes; Journey to the Games, Finding Common Ground and We Can Change Our World.
  
  A selection of educational resources for Key Stage 1, 2 and 3 have been curated for release during Autumn Term 2022 to allow teachers, parents/carers to continue to excite and empower young people in their setting. These will include a focus on success stories from the Games.

• Workshops for Pupils

  Over 500 in-person workshops were delivered in schools and youth settings across the West Midlands which engaged approximately 30,000 young people directly with the Games. There were a mixture of themed workshops offering interactive ways to develop pupils' knowledge and skills bringing pupils closer to the magic of Birmingham 2022.
  
  The workshop programme will continue in the Autumn Term 2022, engaging school pupils across the West Midlands* who have not yet had the oppprtunity to engage.

• Common Ground Grant

  Funded by Birmingham City Council, Common Ground was a creative project with a PSHE learning focus for secondary schools in Birmingham. 28 schools were awarded grants of £1,000. The purpose of these grants was to facilitate a youth-led conversation and creative expression on the theme of 'Common Ground'.
  
  As a culmination of this project and to coincide with the Commonwealth Games in July, all participating schools were invited to a Youth Summit where 120 students had the opportunity to perform or showcase their creative output. They also had the opportunity to meet a host of exciting celebrities, poets, athletes, rappers, and influential organisations to use their voice to tell us what mattered to them in this Commonwealth Games year.

• Grant Funded Projects

  Bring the Power has grant funded two exciting schools programmes. Commonwealth Connections being delivered by British Council and Birmingham Connect being delivered by Youth Sport Trust.
  
  These two projects focus on bringing children and young people together around sport and the arts, improving cultural connectivity and developing awareness of the Commonwealth and Birmingham 2022.
  
  Commonwealth Connections
  
  Commonwealth Connections is a project from the British Council and Bring the Power, which is twinning 60 schools in the West Midlands* with schools from the Caribbean, Sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia. The project will explore creating connections between young people on shared Commonwealth values, through sport and art.
  
  Your school can get involved with the Commonwealth Games 2022 Schools Resource. The activities are designed for schools, with or without a partner, to celebrate the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games and the Commonwealth's ongoing work to improve the lives of its citizens.
  
  Birmingham Connect
  
  Birmingham Connect, funded by Commonwealth Sport Foundation works with schools and young people to inspire local identity and a sense of belonging across Birmingham; focussing on finding common ground, building mutual trust and making sure participating children and young people, teachers and families have fun trying out new sports and artforms.

• Mascot Visits

  Perry, the Birmingham 2022 official mascot, delivered assemblies in 162 primary schools before the Games which engaged almost 40,000 pupils. The assemblies were interactive learning assemblies with pupils learning about the Commonwealth, the sports involved in the Games and the importance of key themes connected with Birmingham 2022.

• Birmingham 2022 Festival & Schools

  The Birmingham 2022 Festival is a six-month cultural programme starting in March 2022.
  
  It will harness the moment of the Games to shine a spotlight on the region’s cultural sector. Motivated by this epic opportunity for cultural learning and education, and in collaboration with our festival colleagues, we’ve identified a number of ways in which teachers and youth practitioners can get more involved with the festival. From monthly curated talks and exclusive access to artists, to downloadable resources that explore the themes and curriculum links of some of our major projects, we see the festival as an unending source of creative inspiration.
