The Queen’s Baton touched down in Bangladesh on 6 January. Bangladeshi sports shooters Abdullah Hel Baki and Shakil Ahmed proudly carried the Baton to its first stop, a welcome reception hosted by Robert Chatterton Dickson, British High Commissioner.
The following day, the Baton visited the National Martyrs Monument, a memorial to those who died in the Bangladesh War of Independence, which separated Bangladesh and Pakistan.
Next up on the tour was Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protishtan (BKSP) a national sports institute. Here, students put on many displays of sport, including gymnastics, boxing, sprinting, table tennis, hockey, and diving - all of which will feature in Birmingham 2022!
On 8 January, the Baton visited Shaheed Bir Uttam Lt. Anwar Girls' College and was warmly greeted by a colourful scene of dancers and musicians. Under a clear blue sky, dozens of students lined up in a grid formation to demonstrate their judo skills.
The final day of the Bangladeshi route was spent at the Bangladesh Olympic Association in Bhaban.
