Birmingham 2022's Legacy Charity
The Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games will touch millions of lives. Way beyond 11 days of sport. It can help young people and communities to grow and succeed. It will bring people together, improve health and wellbeing, and put us on the map.
We have a once in a generation moment to catalyse change. A chance to start something that will leave a positive legacy long after the after the Closing Ceremony finishes, and make a durable difference for thousands of local people.
To do that we have created United by 2022. It is the legacy charity for the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games – established so legacy doesn’t stop when the Games does.
The most ambitious Games' legacy ever
Could this be the most inclusive, most sustainable Commonwealth Games ever? The biggest call to action for local benefit ever achieved by a Commonwealth Games? The most ambitious Commonwealth Games legacy, ever? We believe so.
United By 2022 is building a community fund that can carry on the best projects started by the Games. This means we will be able to create more opportunities for young people, like the creation of accessible playgrounds, or the rollout of catch-up swimming lessons. We will enable practical support, delivered at a local level, placed in the hands of the diverse communities of Birmingham and the West Midlands.
Together we will support and inspire future generations, empower people to solve challenges on their doorstep, champion fairness and inclusivity, and inspire and turn Games’ venues into well-loved and used community spaces.
One Games for everyone. Thousands of individual legacies.
United by 2022. Be part of it.
How your support can help us to cement Birmingham 2022's legacy
With your help, United By 2022 can reach those that are socially excluded – reaching the most disadvantaged communities by supporting projects that are:
- Community led, enabling communities to put their ideas into action and work to solve the challenges on their doorstep.
- Keep the Games for Everyone vision alive and promote fairness and social inclusion.
- Ensure venues and other Games assets are turned into well used and well-loved community spaces after the Games.
United By 2022 has so far identified three projects to fund and that are indicative of projects the charity would like to support.
In the Autumn/Winter of 2022 we will open applications for grant funding from the Community Fund.
