About Victoria Park

Royal Leamington Spa’s Victoria Park will play host to the Lawn Bowls and Para Lawn Bowls events during the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games.

Up to 5,000 fans per day will watch the action across five bowling greens.

The bowling greens are among the best in the country. The venue annually hosts the Bowls England National Championships, attended by 30,000 people, and held the Women’s World Championships in 1996 and 2004.

The 2007 European Race-Walking Cup was also staged at the park, which boasts 10 tennis courts, a skate park, a paddling pool, and a play area.

The park was opened in 1899 to mark Queen Victoria’s Diamond Jubilee and provide more recreation space for the growing town. Throughout the 19th century, it was the venue for galas, military parades, flower shows and circuses.

Accessibility: At this venue there is a mix of hard-standing pathways, trackway, and grass. Some areas of the park outside of the ticketed spectator area may become muddy and wet in bad weather, which may not be suitable for wheelchair or mobility scooter users or those with limited mobility. Accessible facilities and services at this venue include a changing places toilet.

What to expect

Competing over a series of ends in singles, pairs, triples and fours, lawn bowlers demonstrate incredible accuracy and focus.

Spectators will witness bowlers maintaining composure under immense pressure as they battle to get closest to the jack. Demanding strategy and cunning moves, this event sport is one of the most nerve-wracking at the Games.

The Para lawn bowls competition for Birmingham 2022 includes men's and women's pairs for B6 to B8 and a mixed pairs competition for B2 and B3 competitors.

In addition to the sport there will be plenty to see and do at Victoria Park, you may even meet an athlete or Perry the Bull, Birmingham 2022’s official mascot.
